Belt Conveyor Backstops: Size Selection for Conveyor Drive ...

A low-speed backstop generally refers to units that are running at conveyor drive pulley speeds. Most frequently, low-speed backstops are mounted directly on the extended head pulley or drive pulley shaft opposite the drive, as shown in Fig. 3. This provides the most positive means of controlling belt reversal. Further, it also allows necessary service work on the drive components (i.e. reducer,

LOAD SHARING METHODS OF BACKSTOPS IN CONVEYOR DRIVE

MULTIPLE DRIVES 2.1. Low Speed Backstops The conveying velocity of conveyor belts, vary between 1.5 and approx. 6 m/s. Thus, the circumferential speed of the head pulley and of the drive pulley is predetermined. With the help of further plant parameters, in particular the stream of material to be conveyed, the rotational speed of the drive pulley can be determined. Normally, this

Enhancing conveyor safety with the right backstop solution ...

Backstops – or holdbacks – are critical components for any mine site that relies on conveyor belts for materials handling. While most commonly used as an anti-runback device to prevent reverse movement of belts in inclined conveyors, backstops are also deployed on flat overland conveyors to avoid the severe shock loading on start-up.

Backstop Size Selection for Conveyor Drive Applications

Backstop on the primary drive unit holds the full load. The Backstop on the secondary drive unit holds the back tension from the belt. It keeps belt traction on both conveyor systems. TSUBAKI® recommends that the Backstop, having the torque capacity equal to the sum of the primary and secondary motors, be installed on the primary drive unit.

Backstop controls back running of inclined conveyors ...

The backstop is often specified on multi-drive systems, such as large inclined conveyors, where two or more backstops share the reverse load. The torque limiting function is performed through a multi-disc brake working in oil. This solution not only provides for a high torque density of the complete unit, but also ensures that the set slip torque remains constant over extended periods ...

Drive HoldBacks - SAIMH

DRIVES HOLD-BACKS. Backstops. Inclined conveyors require an anti-runback device to prevent reverse movement of the belts. Such a device is referred to as a backstop, or holdback. Though backstops are most likely to be found on inclined conveyors, they are also employed on flat, overland conveyors to avoid the unusually severe shock loading on start-up where the loaded belt sags between idlers. This

Proof Test Interval for Conveyor Holdbacks/backstops

12.11.2019  Hi all, I’m based in Queensland, Australia. Australian standards requires the designer to specify a proof test interval for conveyor backstops ( mandatory). Just wondering if any one can share the procedure and frequency of this test? The standards also recommend monitoring wear and effective operation of holdbacks. However, I have not come across any proven methods for achieving this.
